Always the Bridesmaid — Sarah Webb

Always the Bridesmaid

Amy is fed up. Her so-called friend, Jodie and ex-boyfriend, Jack have been having an affair behind her back, her career is on the road to nowhere and she's just about to turn the dreaded 3-0.

Things couldn't be worse - or so she thinks! Then Suzi, her younger sister, arrives home with an Australian hunk and announces a May wedding. And, while Amy is still reeling from this shock, she learns that her best friend, Beth is tying the knot too. In the same week!

And guess who has to be bridesmaid? At both weddings!

Amy is less than thrilled. You know what they say: Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. But can she prove everyone wrong?

Background to the Book (Website Exclusive)

When I was 29 my little sister (then aged 24) asked me to be a bridesmaid at her June wedding. As the other bridesmaids were to be my glamorous other sister, Kate and an impossibly slim air-hostess called Suzi, as you can imagine I was less than thrilled with the prospect. I turned 30 a week before the wedding and was paranoid about being asked about my single state.

But as it turned out, I had a brilliant time. Emma was a very laid back bride. We had an amazing hen night down in Wicklow, near Dublin a few weeks before the wedding. We went to the dodgy local night club where everyone was asked up to dance by the young (and old!) farmers.

On the big day itself we started celebrating with a glass of champagne at breakfast and lots of hugs and laughter. By the end of the night, all the bridesmaids plus the bride ended up dancing on the tables and singing along to the fab Abba tribute band.

In Always the Bridesmaid I used my own experiences of being a bridesmaid to make the wedding scenes come alive. I had great fun researching the book - visiting wedding fairs, reading wedding magazines, asking people about their weddings and taking notes at actual weddings of my friends.

The book took me about a year to research and to write and I loved every minute of it.
